The young (but not so young by Downtown standards) 7th + Fig farmers’ market (pictured left) has spilled over “the Pit” and out onto the sidewalk.

Successful farmers’ markets can only bring more, or at least expanded offerings — and on different days.

A relatively new arrival to Downtown’s market scene, Friday’s Bank of America Plaza market (pictured right) was recently buzzing with Downtown workers and residents.

Monday: No farmers’ market

Tuesday: No farmers’ market

Wednesday: Central Library, 11:30a to 3:00p (5th/Grand)

Thursday: City Hall, 10:00a to 2:00p (First/Main)

7th + Fig, 11:00a to 3:00p (7th… and Fig…)

Chinatown, 3:00p to 7:00p (Hill/Ord)

Friday: Bank of America Plaza, 11:00a to 3:00p (Hope/3rd)

Saturday: No farmers’ market

Sunday: No farmers’ market

It’s good to see that Downtowners who can’t get to the lunchtime markets now have an evening option at Chinatown during the week, but this list underscores the dire need for weekend options.

Grand Central Market (3rd and Broadway) is open until 6:00p daily but may not offer the selection of fruits and vegetables — nor the organic options — that many people desire.

Downtowners welcome the produce options that are slowly coming our way. The expansion of the 7th + Fig market is a positive step for a market that started out with not much more than popcorn, flowers, and dried fruit — and a piano player too.
