Casa New restaurant Casa has started building-out underneath the Two California Plaza building on Grand Avenue. Along with indoor dining, an outdoor patio is being constructed to handle up to 70 patrons.

Plans call for Casa to be a high-end Mexican venue with weekday happy hours and lunch and dinner servings — though without head chef Josef Centeno, who was originally planned to be a part of the project.

Weekend hours are also planned, which would bring some vibrancy to California Plaza after surrounding corporate offices shut down at 5:00pm on Fridays.

Construction started last week and is expected to be completed in October, according to construction workers on site.

Due to the history of restaurant openings in Downtown, it’s safe to assume that we’d be hopeful Casa opens before the end of the year!

Did anything occupy this space before Casa or has this space been vacant since Cal Plaza opened?

It’s good that Downtown focuses on other parts than just South Park. The Bunker Hill area needs more restaurants that are open on weekends. Afterall that part of Downtown is one of the most visited parts of L.A.

They better do something about the fountains though. Even on only slightly breezy days, spray from the fountain reaches many parts of the walk area around the fountain.

There used to be someother fast food type restaurant and before that a Taco Bell. Surprising because both of those places were usually pretty busy.

The workers on-site gave me the heads up that they plan on completing the project in October, but like I said, given our success with downtown restaurant openings, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re still waiting come december.
