nightlife bash at lot 44 promotes sobriety

Teetotalism. Is there a place for it in casual social settings?

According to one adamant angelenic commenter, there should be. And come Saturday night, those with similar lifestyles will have a chance to party hard in an alcohol-free zone.

On July 26 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Lot 44 Coffee is hosting Sober Nightlife, a club/mixer/event popular in some coffeehouses and tearooms of South Florida and New York where abstaining individuals have an outlet to gather and network. Live music will be provided (appropriately) by DJ Empty.

Whether you’re a recovering alcoholic or just want to avoid a hangover on Sunday morning, it should be worth checking out. After all, “drinks” for the night should only run you about $4-5.

Note to DJ: For sake of the cause, try to avoid any songs by David Hasselhoff.

Sounds like a interesting concept actually, considering that most nightlife activities involve drinking, and consequently spending, too much.

……or whether one simply wants a civilized atmosphere where people do not abuse alcohol and end up being too loud or goofy.

I’m convinced that eventually alcohol will be viewed in the same light as sodium, trans fat, and cigarette smoke are now. I hope to see my gym buddies there. What a great alternative this is to the bar scene!

Not a terrible idea. How many times have you met someone in a bar and they’re so cute, but so trashed, that it’s a turn off?
