A week ago, construction of the second LAPD Headquarters structure was initiated with the moving of the large crane from the southern end of the block to the northern end.

Walking by yesterday I was impressed to see that the north building is already on its second floor. The site bounded by 1st, Spring, 2nd and Main is a busy construction zone with dozens of workers hustling to erect Parker Center’s replacement.

Crews were finishing heavy construction on underground infrastructure last week, which has allowed the northern wing to rise rapidly.

Cost overruns have added almost $140 million to the original estimate for LAPD’s new home, with a recent request for approximately $40 million in additional funds to continue construction.
