Before a lunchtime rendezvous, we at angelenic checked out the new ImaginAsian Center (formerly the Linda Lea Theatre) under construction on Main Street between 2nd and 3rd.

The performance and cinema space’s modern glass facade has been installed over the past few days, and the Zaun Glass Company crew was applying some finishing touches when we stopped by.  Exterior glasswork was designed by Spectrum Glass & Aluminum, Inc., of Burbank.

It’s difficult to see that the fresh new glass from the exterior photo (pictured above) since it’s, well, glass, but it’s there.

Unfinished interior spaces loom over an end-of-year projected opening, but judging from our tour today we believe the venue will make its target date.

After stepping inside, we could see an interior bar/concession stand has taken shape near the rear of the space, with appliances being installed (pictured below, left). A modern staircase to the building’s upper levels dominates the lobby’s right side.

The interior has a very 1960’s-meets-the-future theme to it, and we feel that Hodgetts + Fung Architecture did a very good job differentiating the space from other area theaters.

I’m still wondering how the film venue is going to deal with the booming banda music coming from Downtown LA’s only gay bar two doors down, but luckily that’s a problem for them and not me.

More interior and construction photographs here.

I was very upset when I saw the outcome of the “renovation”. I was hoping they would preserve the original exterior.
