los angeles theatre getting a restaurant

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Los Angeles Theatre, Downtown Los Angeles, BroadwayAs part of the restoration plans for Broadway’s Los Angeles Theatre, owner Michael Delijani has filed for a conditional use permit “to allow the sale for on-site consumption of a full line of alcoholic beverages in conjunction with the operation of several entertainment venues and a restaurant venue within the Los Angeles Theater…”

Coupled with the planned eatery at the Chapman Flats and rumors of a high-end Mexican restaurant in the Eastern Columbia Building, the Los Angeles Theatre’s restaurant would be one of the first mid-range or high-end restaurants on the Broadway Corridor in decades.

We’re waiting to hear back from the owner and venue management, and we’ll let you know as soon as more information comes our way. In the meantime, I’ll be thinking about how amazing it would be to dine in this space.

I know there’s a lot of work ahead, but story after story about Broadway’s revitalization keeps coming forth. I have to believe, with all the money invested, and with the city behind the effort, it is going to get there. And this theater is just f***ing beautiful.

OMG this theatre is just sooo damn breathtakingly beautiful. If you goto the website u gotta see the womens restrooms where I heard they used 16 different types of marble in the stalls, lobby, theatre & ballroom/restaurant areas in particular. It almost makes u tear up to wonder how we couldve let these treasures come to their current demise and despair. Theres soo much potential and detail in these buildings. I recommend since for its namesake the Theatre will somehow be full restored, maybe adding a beacon of some sorts on the marquee that would shine really bright and high to let ppl know from near and far that this is a true icon to Los Angeles.

I did some PA work in 2005 for AFI at the Los Angeles Theatre. I can’t put into words how amazing the place is. The women’s restroom is something to see. The thing that really caught my attention was the separate powder room leading into the actual restroom. It has a oval-shaped room lined with partitioned vanity mirrors and lights. We’re talking about a time when men wore hats and ladies wore gloves. High society.

Being a member of the LA Conservancy’s Historic Theatres Committee and the Assistant Producer of the Lyric Opera of Los Angeles, I have spent hundreds and hundreds of hours in this theatre. It truly is Amazing!! The space that the owners want to use as a restaurant is located in the mezzanine level of the basemen of the landing between the Lobby and the Ballroom. They have a large space down there that for whatever reason, was never decorated in 1930 while the Theatre was under construction. This should be one of our great city’s flagship theatres and this will only further it along in that direction. Even though I’ve been inside more times then I can count, I never NEVER tire of being surrounded by the sheer beauty and majesty that is the Los Angeles Theatre!
