the courtyard madang to make a bang in koreatown
As the colossal Solair Wilshire tower rises and dominates the corner of Wilshire and Western, a smaller lesser-known complex is quietly making headway across the street.
Expected to include 45 stores, restaurants and a multi-screen CGV cinema, The Courtyard: MaDang is a critical component in establishing the intersection of Wilshire and Western as an urban entertainment destination.
The four-level, 100,000 square-foot development designed by Corbel Architects will feature a traditional Korean aesthetic and appeal largely to the Korean community, as well as tourists. Its anchor tenant, Woo Lae Oak, is an upscale Korean restaurant with locations in Manhattan and Beverly Hills.
When MaDang opens next year, the developers hope it will draw family shoppers during the day in addition to the young, hip crowds at night. With its location next to the Wilshire/Western Metro Purple Line station, I’d say it’s a sure bet.

It’s nice to see them advertise themselves at “Western Metro” adjacent in their Locations section. A really good project in my opinion.
Have to say, it reminds me quite a bit of Hollywood and Highland.. (I know that’ll upset some people, but I actually like H&H.)
I have no qualms w/ Hollywood/Highland. H&H is a big destination on the Metro rail system.
I was just referring to how it’s thought by many to be architecturally hideous, but like I said, I personally enjoy the place.
Now if they will just extend the subway west from that intersection, you might actually get people there…
