After passing the previously announced mid-summer opening date, Bottega Louie’s plywood boards have come down this weekend, revealing large windows and the beginnings of a well-appointed interior.
Curious pedestrians watched the installation of marble flooring from the sidewalk in front of the building, which for years was stifled by a covered walkway as the former office space above was converted into loft housing.
Downtown’s so-called “Restaurant Row” is beginning to take shape on 7th Street — even if it is coming along at a snail’s pace.
Though the team’s projected October opening may once again be premature, even that estimation isn’t a moment too soon for Downtowners eager to try the classic Italian fare and boutique bakery, market and patisserie.
A small selection of artisanal cheeses, infused cooking oils, pastas, sliced meats, homemade sauces, honeys, coffees, and wines will be available for purchase at the market.

Thanks for the pictures and info - I had the chance to walk by the other day and notice the plywood had come down to reveal the big, beautiful windows.
Let’s hope the opening is ‘on schedule’, whatever that means here in downtown LA :)
I think this place is gonna be the official jumpstart of developing “restaurant row” much like “petes” was the ignition to developing 4th/main area. Get ready people we are gonna get lots more quality restaurants like this once LA Live fully gets up in running!!!
I am so ready for this. Color me there. Where’s my artisanal salami?
I agree! This is one to get excited about.
I have yet to meet a “Louie” that i did not like..open…open!!!!!!!!
Given the warm reception Ralphs received last summer, this place should be another smash. My only question is what will the parking be like? I also hope the October opening holds because my parents would absolutely love this place.
Also, what is the status on the retail space in the adjacent building?
What can be done to bring a specialty foods focus “a la San Francisco Ferry building” to Grand Central Market” Half the stall are empty?
