more improvements coming to 9th and olive
A few weeks ago, a couple observant readers asked about a paper-covered storefront next to Mode Restaurant at 9th and Olive. Rumors of a new bakery surfaced.
Today, Tony Jones of Mode confirmed their new neighbor is to be B & G Cookie Company, an independent bakery run by sisters Beverly and Grace. Currently a delivery-only service, the sisters’ new location will be their first retail store. The bakery is known for delivering cookies in a valise, a small handheld carrier. We’ll let you know when we hear back from the owners about an opening date and additional details.
Also, a boutique denim retailer is planned two doors down from the bakery, at 922 S. Olive. However, the deal is contingent upon assuming the lease of the space’s current tenant, C&H Display. According to Mr. Jones, “If space provides upstairs we’d like to add a salon.” We assume he’s referring to space above the potential boutique.
This stretch of Olive, south of Ninth will soon be much more inviting. Connecting it all will be ten sleep-proof benches encouraging pedestrians to linger in the area, as well as bike racks to encourage patrons and employees to bike to the block.
Maybe calling this emerging neighborhood “SoNi” is a little premature, but the desolate area could use a new identity.

Interesting! Who is pitching in for the pedestrian/biking amenities on this block? Would love to see some tree-trimming, better street lighting at night, and rebuilt sidewalks.
aww no SPINKLES Bakery? my heart is forever distraught
:(
Here’s a really bad one…North South Park.
Or NoSoPa if you really want to be annoying about it. Sounds like an American Indian name.
Let’s PLEASE avoid “SoNi” and all other spin-offs of “SoHo”. 9th and Olive works just fine
WeFashDi. Or SoEaFiDi.
9th & Olive…amen
