caffe primo coming to the pegasus
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
The Pegasus Apartments, which has been open and leasing for several years now, is starting to fill up its remaining ground-floor retail spaces. After the Daily Grill opened in the building in 2005 — as one of the most successful locations in the chain — other restaurants have been clamoring to set up shop in Downtown.
The latest entrant is Caffe Primo, an LA-based upscale eatery that offers paninis, pizzettas, coffee and gelato in addition to exotic dishes such as spaghetti with crab sauce, sweet potato waffles and chopped mint salad.
Even more interesting than their food concoctions is the number of sidewalk tables included in the floorplan for the 2,142 square-foot space on the high-traffic corner of Wilshire and Flower.
Construction on the interior will commence soon with an opening planned “definitely sometime this year,” according to a restaurant rep.
As the local chain continues its expansion from West Hollywood, another location in Koreatown is also planned to debut in 2008.
Hmmm… a Hollywood cafe coming to Downtown and K-town? Someone knows what they’re doing!
Caffe Primo’s original site at Sunset Millennium Plaza offers late-night hours: 11pm Sunday thru Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. If the new Pegasus location offers similar hours (which we expect), the Standard’s trendy rooftop bar crowd may soon have another place to puke up those overpriced drinks.
Thanks to reader Drew Combs for the retail lease tip.

Hey guys…noticed on the floorplan that they’ve plan 2 restaurant spaces. If Caffe Primo is taking the corner spot…any idea of who might be moving in next door?
Fernando, I’ve been drilling the leasing agents at Pegasus, but I don’t think that space has been leased yet.
Since there’s an alcohol permit for the space I’m assuming they’re going to hold out for a restaurant/lounge space.
