city hall shuttle terminated, dash route changes

Attention Downtown Dashers!

Effective August 29, the LA Department of Transportation will terminate the free City Hall Shuttle looping the string of city and county offices throughout the Civic Center along 1st and 2nd streets.

The unused bus is going towards the new Dash Central City East line starting September 4, serving the eastern portion of Downtown every 20 minutes (weekdays 6:30am to 6:30pm) by circulating through Little Tokyo, Central City East and the Flower District.

To replace the lost City Hall Shuttle service, the Dash Route A will be rerouted up the northern Figueroa Corridor and travel across 1st Street into Little Tokyo. According to rider alerts issued by the department, the amended route (click for map) will serve all current City Hall Shuttle stops except 2nd and Broadway and 2nd and Spring.

Eleven new stops will be added to the expanded circuit, set to begin operation September 2.

Also on that day, Dash Route E is getting realigned to better serve the Good Samaritan Hospital. Two unpopular stops in City West will be dropped with a new one being added on the southeast corner of 6th and Witmer. (Three stops are listed in the change alert, but one at Wilshire and St. Paul does not exist.)

Bus frequencies will be maintained.

According to the Downtown News, Councilmembers Perry and Gruel are also currently seeking to extend Downtown Dash service on weekdays after 6:00pm, catering to the resident population wanting quick and easy transport to new restaurants and nightlife venues after they get home from work.

The new DASH service that will begin on Sept. 4 in the eastside of Downtown will be called DASH Central City East. It will operate every 20 minutes from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday. It will use one of the vehicles freed up from the cancellation of the City Hall Shuttle. The other vehicle will be added to the revised DASH Route A so bus frequencies can be maintained.

The Dash G will be the Central City East Dash Service. There will be a press conference to acknowledge those in skid row who worked over 7 years to make this a reality. I will have further details on when the press conference will be. It was not SRO Housing Corporation executives who made this possible or the ceos of the not-for profits it was the work of the actual residents.

It will not be the Dash G it will run like a community DASH every 20 minutes.

It will be called the DASH Central City East

This is all I could dig up, from the DOT regarding the new Central City East DASH:

Service will start on Thursday,Sept. 4 at a press event to be held at 10 AM. Details about the event are still being finalized. After that, service will operate every 20 minutes from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

The area served will be east of Main St. between 2nd and 7th Sts.

A route and schedule flyer is being prepared and will be available before the service starts, after it has been reviewed by Council Districts 9 and 14.
