la live-inspired signage will soon spruce up 717 olympic
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
Construction crews continue working on South Park’s new 26-story 717 Olympic tower to meet its planned Spring 2008 opening.
Today, support mounts for the project’s high-graphic billboards were being installed on the structure’s podium along Olympic.
The large eye-catching displays will eventually help connect the project with the flashy LA Live entertainment district rising across the street. They will also serve to hide the building’s flavorless stucco base.

Just saw the LA Times this morning. Foreclosures way up and they expect the numbers to get even worse. I love the way downtown is becoming a real city, but what does this economic downturn mean. I guess this building will do well because it is a rental, not a condo. But this is scary. Downtown has come so far, but still has a ways to go.
I know there are many differences between the old rendering and the final building, but I hope the signage actually wraps the Olympic & Fig corner as the rendering suggests.
Are these signs going to light up at night? If they want it to look like times square the’ve got to put neon lights.
Those signs will definitely light up at night. Also, I remember seeing strips of green neon lighting “trim” up the sides of the tower in the original nighttime rendering. We’ll find out about that soon.
wow, this building kick’s met lofts ass
