winos rejoice: bottlerock ready in two months?

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

BottleRock Wine Bar, South Park, Downtown Los AngelesSouth Park’s much-anticipated BottleRock Wine Bar that was originally scheduled to open this February is “still about two months out” according to a company representative.

Whether that’s a euphemism for “just sometime this year” is anyone’s guess, since even the most conservative projections tend to be crushed under the weight of LA’s bureaucratic nightmare.

The wine-and-tapas concept is sure to be a hit in a neighborhood currently devoid of many restaurant options.

Construction on the 3,776 square-foot restaurant along the ground floor of the Met Lofts began recently, we’ve been told. But for now, we’ll just have to make do with a floorplan for the space.

When I walked by a week and a half ago they didn’t even have a complete floor yet (partial concrete, trenches for plumbing, and still some dirt). I like the optimism, but experience says that you have trouble getting a 95% completed interior through inspections and sign offs in two months, much less a spot that has barely started real build out.

The real question is why is it such a bureaucratic nightmare to open a business? Isn’t tax revenue for the city a good thing? It is real nice that the likes of Brady Westwater are always willing to help people navigate the bureaucracty. However, that’s not a real solution. As a taxpayer and a local resident, I’d prefer institutional reform to address what appears to be a systemic problem which is retarding the normal and healthy growth of downtown.

Hmm, I wonder how 0ur esteemed Ms. Perry and her bleeding heart feels about this? I’d hate to think she feels bad for all the businesses and the local residents. I’d also assume she understands tax revenue funds her various bleeding heart impulses. Then again, maybe not.

Gracetti is trying very hard to fix this in the hollywood district. Hopefully, it gets reformed soon.

I dont know why the business community hasnt rallied to fix this yet.

looks like Corkbar is already stealing its shine, they are gonna have to work really hard to compete and establish a solid customer base, good luck hopefully the manager of Hygge reconsiders his restaurant concept again and places a full blown restaurant not just pastry shop.

Bottle Rock is gonna crush Cork Bar just from staff wine knowledge alone. It won’t take long to create its base.
