contempo mexican faceoff: adoro vs. provecho

The Financial District soon will be the site of a heated duel between two modern Mexican eateries.

Provecho, a new mid-scale restaurant and lounge under construction inside the 800 Wilshire Building, will go head-to-head with Adoro Mexican Grille when it opens in late spring. Adoro, which debuted early last year at 7th + Fig Plaza, has established a faithful lunch and dinner crowd with its friendly bar, lively atmosphere and excellent food.

However, Provecho’s promising menu with options like lobster chile rellenos, torta sliders with Kobe ground beef and chorizo crusted scallops is sure to give its rival a run for the money. An ample selection of tequilas is also planned by Chef/owner Gabriel Morales (of The Polo Lounge and Republic Restaurant), according to EaterLA.

The 4,000 square-foot space sits at the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and the Lebanon Street alley, just west of Flower. A retail study plan for the 800 Wilshire Building from early 2007 shows alley pedestrian improvements such as banners and string lights will accompany the new business.
