new starbucks solidifies city west as neighborhood

Looking for information on Downtown LA?

Angelenic is the essential news resource for those living, working and visiting Downtown Los Angeles. Check out our New Starbucks at GLO, Downtown Los AngelesBy most Southern California standards, Downtown's City West will reach true neighborhood status on Friday, February 22.

The interior of GLO's corner retail space at Wilshire and Bixel is nearly complete for the new Starbucks under construction since early fall. Exterior signage was installed around the storefront late last week, including a smaller pedestrian-scale logo at the intersection.

That acknowledgment of the neighborhood's walkability is a sharp contrast to the puzzling "drive-thru” component that was erroneously advertised back in October.

According to the store’s manager Claudia Monroy, the opening date is contingent upon permitting for the patio seating area.

Planned hours of operation are:

Monday-Friday: 5:00am-9:00pm
Saturday & Sunday: 5:30am-7:00pm

The new coffee shop is the first in a string of new retailers planning to open along this stretch of Wilshire Boulevard. Two short blocks away, Vero will soon welcome Yogurberry, Mitaki Sushi, Wien Bakery & Cake House and Subway. T-Mobile and It’s a Grind are also being courted.

to regard an area as finally reaching “neighborhood” status because it finally got a starbucks is not only disrespectful to its current residents but reinforces the dominant hegemony of white suburban american standards. so i guess the community that organically grows out of patronizing the neighborhood laundry mats, corner stores, panaderias are simply dismissed since those types of establishments are too foreign for middle america?
by the way, theres also been a starbucks at 6th and union for a few years now.
