city west welcomes new lapd station thursday

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Construction of LAPD’s new Rampart facility wrapped this summer, and the last two month saw the relocation of patrol teams and detectives from the old station at Temple and Benton Way near the 101 Freeway.

The Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department — which had a notorious track record for corruption and misconduct, the basis for FX Network’s police drama The Shield — serves the communities of Angelino Heights, Echo Park, Historic Filipinotown, Koreatown, Westlake/Macarthur Park, Pico-Union, Temple-Beaudry and City West. These districts comprise one of the densest urban areas west of the Mississippi River.

The new precinct is located at 1401 West 6th Street, one block east of the Good Samaritan Hospital on the border of City West and the Westlake district. An official grand opening is planned for Thursday, September 4.

What is going to happen to the station on Benton and Temple? Also, are they going to close the other Rampart station on 3rd and Union??

I think the Benton and Temple site is going to become a LAUSD high school.

There will be demolition of the current building, of course.
