Not that any City West resident will miss this, Starbucks at the corner of Wilshire and Bixel officially opened today — only one week over schedule.

This morning, the scene on the block was familiar, but one not yet seen in this up-and-coming neighborhood.

Pedestrians toting their favorite beverages filled the sidewalk, and patrons sitting inside perusing the newspapers seemed curious about the newfound street life. (Picture shown was taken a fews ago during construction.)

The instant success is a sharp indication of pent-up demand for quality retail in an area that has seen a high concentration of new housing in recent years.

Tentative hours of operation are:

Monday-Friday: 5:30am-9:00pm
Saturday & Sunday: 5:30am-7:00pm
