lofty dog relocates to the ‘bark’-er block

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Lofty Dog Interior, Downtown Los AngelesWhen one doggie door closes, another opens.

Lofty Dog owners Cabrini Schneider and Karen Martin are in the process of relocating their pet supplies and service shop from the Historic Core to the Artist District.

The current location on 2nd Street near Main closed its doors on February 29th and will soon reopen next to Reel Appeal inside the Barker Block at 525 S. Hewitt Street.

According to Schneider, the new 7,000 square-foot retail space is now under construction and will allow the business to grow and expand its service base. When complete, grooming, doggie day care, all the retail and an indoor dog park will be housed under one roof.

Several Historic Core pet owners we’ve spoken to say they will continue to patronize the new and improved Lofty Dog once their arrival at Barker Block is official. Though with Pussy & Pooch now in the neighborhood, we’ll see who stays Top Dog.

-grand launch event offers a taste of pussy & pooch
-more than just a pet store, it’s a “pussy experience”

this store is a bunch of crap!! the owners are fronting like they have money when they really dont!! every time i call the phone is disconnected, i go into the store and the lights are off, plus i saw them heating water up to wash dogs with a stove in their grooming room. i dont think thats the way to wash dogs. the groomer is never there, no food on the shelves, the owner is very ghetto and loud. i can go on for days about this store. as a small business i was trying to support them, but now that they have moved it is even worse. the store is open when they feel like it. i was told there would be alot of dogs at the park for my dogs to play with, when in all actualty its the owners 5 dogs that are there, and thats it!! no groomer at all now, no bording, no nothing. im would be very suprise if it last long. the customer service from the employees were good when they did have some of the girls there, but now since it seems their gone, its all going down hill. some people are good for running stores, otheres are not, and this store is truly an example. the loftydog is not the only dog store in downtown, and if it was i still wouldnt go!!!”

As a business owner, I know how hard it is to run a business and please others - you cant please everyone. Some people need to live longer to know whats ghetto or whats New Orleans flava. If its her 5 dogs or Joe blows 5 dogs which she brought to the park what difference does it make. What she provided were 5 dogs. If you didnt like her dogs, well go find 5 dogs on your own. I have visited Loftydogs and found it to be beautifully New Orleans deco designed, fun, variety of items to choose from, and dog bites which make me want to eat them. Everyone has a learning curve and it takes time to grow a business to success. Many will never try but they will hate on those that have.
