Not impressed by the Laemmle Grand 4 at the Marriott Hotel? Does the Historic Core’s ImaginAsian Center not fit your cinematic tastes? Is the Arclight Hollywood too far?
If you live in Downtown and find yourself seeking a convenient movie theater alternative, you’ll be glad to learn about a new film venue in Koreatown called Mpark4 Theaters.
This sleek Korean-owned indie cinema house opened early last year on the third level of the Wilshire Galleria at 3240 Wilshire Boulevard, but is still being discovered by most Angelenos.
Not anymore!
Mpark4 Theaters features first-run Hollywood blockbusters and Korean flicks (sans English subtitles, unfortunately) with stadium-style seating and late screenings on Friday and Saturday nights! And the best part… Metro’s Wilshire Vermont Station Project is across the street.
Once all the new retailers fill in, you’ll be able to buy a new PS3 game, grab coffee, get an eye exam, have dinner and see a movie all at the same intersection. How’s that for convenience?
-despite openings, wilshire vermont’s retail mix still bland

GO KSEP! :)
I also mentioned it on the chapman market post.
I had tried to keep it my little secret ..lol
Since i got a flexible work schedule sometimes if im in the area I take in a weekday matinee. The staff is really friendly and the ticket prices are not bad.
According to the staff they do real well on weekends- friday/saturday nights.
I got a kick of seeing churros and nachos at the snack bar.
Their website is in korean and also in english.
Really the only reason I go to the Laemmle Grande 4 is for the documentaries and some very exclusive runs of foreign films.
I did catch JUNO there last month as a matter of convenience. But once the Regal Cinemas 14-( or so) at LA Live that will all change, i think they said 2010.
mpark4 has been since at least last year, but my guess is 2 years or more. I also thought it played just korean movies w/o english subtitles. It would be great if I were wrong.
Also, the movie theatre on vermont in los feliz village as well as the arclight are subway accessible via the red line.
I dont know where magic johnson theatres are, but my guess is the expo line will be running through there.
Of course, by then, the Madong development will have a 12 screen theatre, and LA live will also have a movie theatre.
All in all, downtowners have more options than they think.
Oops, I should read your entire post before replying. Back last year, when I heard about it, I wanted to go. I found that
a) they ONLY screened korean movies (which is fine)
b) They had ZERO subtitles.
I was bummed out.
Jeremy, I called and confirmed they have only been open for over a year.
The Vista in Los Feliz is metro accessible-ish, but not near as close or convenient (and only one screen). I’ve seen many movies there and love it - but the walk it dreadful.
The Magic Johnson theater via Expo Line is still two years away, as is the LA Live cinema.
The CGV Theatre will be a great option for Downtowners once it opens later this year. For now, Hollywood aside, Mpark4 Theaters is high on the list.
They opened in December of 2006.
They try to have 2 korean films and 2 “american-hollywood ” releases, mostly geared towards the action and sci-fi genre.
I have yet to try a korean film there.
But ive enjoyed among many-The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Thirteen both in english with korean subtitles.
Weekday matinees are cool, its like your own private screening room since they have lower attendance.
The Expo Line will NOT take you to Magic Johnson Cinemas. The Expo Line will stop at Crenshaw and Exposition. The theaters are at Crenshaw and King Blvd. After getting off the train, you would have to catch a bus or walk almost a mile south. (On the plus side however, they give free refills of popcorn and soda. Wish the arclight did that!)
He was talking about the Los Feliz Theaters, on Vermont just south of Franklin. That has three screens. About a four block walk from the Vermont/Sunset Red Line stop. A bit of an uphill incline to get there.
But the Vista at Sunset/Hollywood/Hillhurst/Virgil is only two blocks away from that same stop, and it’s all level. That’s a dreadful walk?
Scott, yeah I do think it’s a dreadful walk. I’ve done it a lot over the last two years, and even though it’s only a couple blocks from the train stop, the hassle of that 5-point intersection is a pedestrian nightmare.
I still do it because I love the Vista, but now that I know about Mpark4, I will definitely choose to see the same movie playing there for the ease of accessibility.
Mpark4 is great. I’ve seen, National Treasure 2, Wall-E, Hancock, Wanted, Indian Jones, Jumper, and a few other first run releases. (all with Korean Subtitles)
The place is new ,so the facilities are, of course, in great condition. The theater audience is great as they respect the movie going experience.
Great place to go.
