broadway snags japanese clothing boutique
ESP (Extra Sensory Perception), a trendy Japanese boutique with locations all over Japan, is making its U.S. debut on the southern tip of Downtown’s Broadway strip.
The retailer will cater to a younger hip crowd offering Flip the Script clothing, shoes and accessories.
A fully stocked floor and finished storefront indicate the new shop should open this week. Attempts to reach the business owner were unsuccessful.
Despite being within visual range of the high-traffic showrooms at California Market Center, the boutique’s location at 1029 South Broadway is completely devoid of the foot traffic that retailers so desperately require.
Hopefully ESP’s business plan relies upon more than just a sixth-sense gut instinct. Spread the word!
Thanks to reader Dr. Boris for the info! Got a tip? Let us know.

A hip boutique in my zip code? Thank you, ESP! This, in conjunction with SipTea, is a promising sign for the growth of the southern-downtown scene.
Very nice, I liiiike.
This would have been great in little tokyo. But i guess they wanted to “stand out” and be closer to the fashion district. Plus i bet they got a bigger space for less than they would have in little tokyo.
Appears like its going to be a great and fun 2008- spring and summer.
I cannot wait, despite the recession- i will choose to spend my money in downtown la:)
Stopped by at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Not open.
Still never seen this place open. Is it a going concern?
I honestly don’t find myself down that way too often, but according to their site (and flickr set) it’s open. http://www.esp.gr.jp/dt.html and…

Same deal – went by on a Sat and not open.
They should really post their hours or keep a regular schedule. They’re already light on foot traffic and doesn’t seem like the ship is being run very well.
Best part .. the ESP BLOG (L.A.) had a posting for Sat (6/28) while the store’s CLOSED!
Get your shit together ESP or you watch business go down drain!!
I just drove by this Saturday afternoon and, yep, they were completely shut down. Disappointing.
