Mark your calendars! The first weekend in April brings the spring 2008 artwalk to The Brewery Art Colony in Lincoln Heights.
Over 100 resident artists open their private studio/lofts spaces inside the many structures of the old industrial campus to the public in this twice-annual self-guided event.
Photography, sculptures, paintings and mixed-media creations displayed on the personal walls of the artists’ homes are available for purchase during the artwalk. Most artists - an eclectic mix of live performers, clothiers, weavers, sculptors, potters, filmmakers, painters, photographers and taxidermists - will be present to openly discuss their works in person.
However, with most of art available at “very-proud-of-this” prices, the affair becomes more of a gallery hopping experience than opportunity to expand your personal collection.
Even still, part of the fun is exploring the maze-like corridors and catwalks of massive factory buildings, where experimental living spaces have been carved out of former mill rooms.
With about 500 residents, The Brewery is the world’s largest art colony and a must-see adventure for any who has never been.
