Bright window decals pushing kebabs, sandwiches, greek salads and falafel plates have taken over the southeast corner of 6th and Witmer across from Pacific Dining Car.

Herminie’s Grill, a family-run Persian restaurant and cafe, opened earlier this month under the green awnings of the 12-story 1254 West Sixth Street apartment building.

In addition to all the classic dishes advertised from the sidewalk, appetizers such as hummus, dolma and veggie sarma are available alongside grilled salmon, lamb chops, rotisserie chicken and sturgeon fish entrees (all priced under $10). A wall of freshly-brewed Euro coffee and a petite pastry case filled with eclairs, almond cookies, baklava and ptichi complete the cafe offerings, an obvious afterthought for the new business.

Hours of operation run from 11:00pm to 8:00pm Monday thru Friday and 11:00am to 5:00pm on Saturdays.

Herminie’s Grill may never make a name for itself as the most fetching joint in the City West neighborhood, but it brings life to a long-vacant retail space while adding variety to the area dining options.
