the edison hosting this month’s community mixer
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
Regardless if you’ve missed the last six Downtown community mixers (or have never attended), this is sure to be one of the better nights of the series.
The Edison, arguably Downtown’s most popular nightlife venue, is hosting this month’s event scheduled this Friday night from 5:00pm to closing. Drinks will be half-priced for the first three hours of the evening, a perfect way to segue from after-work social to weekend outing.
The switch from Thursday nights may be an attempt to boost attendance, as DLANC’s monthly effort has been met with varying degrees of success. (As it turns out, the day change is due to The Edison’s schedule.)
Angelenic and company hasn’t made an attempt to go since April — so maybe it’s time to revisit.
Still attending the Downtown mixer? Let us know in the comments!

ladies, remember you gotta wear heels to get in.
and gentlemen, can’t wear no sneakers.
what gives with that?!
classic racial profiling methinks. wouldn’t be surprised if the next flier for this event has people in black face.
Ladies can’t wear flats? That’s a little extreme.
People are always super dressed up here. It really makes a fun environment if you happen to be up for it. I guess Ralph is saying that certain races don’t own dress shoes and heels. How stereotypical.
good thinking to reschedule the event during the first presidential debate. /sarcasm
Just a further note on dress code so people don’t get turned away (although I see some of these Edison faux pas in the club- you don’t want to be the one the doorman turns away).
- Men must wear a shirt w/ collar (no t-shirts or crew necks)
- Jeans are ok if they have no rips/tears/holes
I’ll be there as I enjoy the Friday Happy Hour crowd at The Edison and attend frequently- it will be cool to meet more downtown dwellers at this event.
The earlier you go, the less strict they are with the dress code. Ladies - you can wear flats without a problem. Just not ugly ones.
The place is a little overhyped. The interior is nice, but it gets very busy and seating and service can be a problem. The drinks are alright. If you’re looking to socialize and not drink a lot, this place isn’t bad. Drinks at half price, it definitely makes it a great deal.
The dress code isn’t always followed. I’ve seen people in there with jeans and sneakers. It’s not worth risking it, unless you have alternate plans.
I’m looking forward to seeing Angelenic & Co. there Friday. And a good rule of thumb regarding dressing for any venue—albeit an old rule—is that the help should never be dressed better than the customers.
Yeah, why during the debate.
even if I had nice clothes to wear I’m not going to miss the 1st Presidential debate. It’s more important to me personally than having some drinks a this time. Have fun folks!
Meeko: That is, if McCain shows up.
is anyone downtown hosting a debate viewing party? that’s actually something i’d be interested in attending.
did anyone catch the premiere show for HEROES on NBC? They had a premiere party at the Edison… it was pretty cool to see….
hope to see lots of happy downtowners tonight…
FYI: I will be hosting/organizing a mixer for the upcoming presidential debates and on election night. More details TBA
yeah, because happy downtowners need to party rather than think about where our country is headed and watch the presidential debate.
happy downtowners can make their own choices…network, sleep, work, party, eat, clean house, watch the debate, etc.
if you’ve already made other plans, then perhaps we’ll see each other at next month’s mixer
Any of you Noobs ever heard of Tivo? Or is a debate so damn good you have to watch it live? It would probably make more sense time-delayed with a few drinks in you.
bob - yes i have tivo. i’m just having a difficult time coming up with something more important to me than watching it. what are you doing that’s more important?
dude, i wish i could go to the mixer, it sounds rad! but i’m not 21 yet. if i were tho, dude, you know i’d be there and ready to party!
So did The Edison have the debate up on their big LCD screens? I was able to follow it here in Taiwan on CNN International. Fascinating! Can’t wait for the VP debate next week.
No debate on TV at Edison- the bar mgr said it would not display political stuff like that and get people riled-up; makes sense. But it is interesting that they are hosting an Obama event featuring Hillary Clinton next Saturday evening. They are keeping that event on the “down low” too- normal mailing list is not being used to advertise the event, etc- I had to “pull strings” a little to get a flyer for event…
