hotel ‘guests’ to live in a fishbowl on main street

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

It’s a page right out of Extreme Marketing Stunts: The How-To Guide, but that doesn’t take away from the flurry of media attention that could result from this.

Bill Lanting of Lanting Hotel Group, the company behind the new Stay boutique at the Cecil, is seeking a group of “hotel guests” to live in a bubble on Main Street in a pair of mock rooms built recently behind two glass storefronts.

“We want to install two or three hotel guests in these storefront hotel rooms for an entire month… around the clock,” says Lanting in an email to angelenic today. The idea comes after a similar, but brief display held last week during the October Art Walk.

The hotel operator goes on to share that within days of an ad posted on Craiglist, over one hundred willing respondents had expressed interest in the offer, ten of which have already been selected to participate.

“They will live, eat, work, and relax in these spaces for about twenty hours per day.”

He continues, “If this goes well, we may even extend the promotion indefinitely, checking in new guests every week. We are planning to launch this Wednesday or Thursday.”

The goal, of course, is to gain significant local, national and even international exposure for Stay.

As for the “fish,” they’re in for their share of exposure as well. It’s life in glass box to whoever takes a stroll down Main, night and day. There are no curtains or blinds, just an extra room in the back for a shower and toilet.

Doesn’t sound like my idea of a comfortable stay.

cool I would welcome that, its something new and has never been done before in LA, also allows Main Street to get more exposure which will hopefully = more development, residents, which in return stabilizes greater status and recognition.

Feels strangly like a cross between that Giant Robot store and the set for Romper Room.

I’m one of those selected to stay and I plan to walk around nude for some of the time. I love for women to see me in the buff, and they like it too, and I’ll probably have daytime “fun” with my gf at some point. I’m really excited about it.

I happened to see this today while visiting downtown. Very interesting. Those who were there indicated they are “paid” actors and actresses and they receive free rooms and meals for doing this “stunt”.
