comedy walk pairs with community mixer tonight
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
In an effort to spin-off the success of the monthly Art Walk, organizers of the Comedy Walk are now throwing their clout behind the Downtown Community Mixer event to ignite every third Thursday as another time to be out on the streets of the Historic Core.
Tonight at Broadway Bar from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, the usual mixing and schmoozing will take place over $5 drinks. If being on a list at the door makes you feel important, visit thelamix.com to RSVP, though it isn’t necessary.
Afterwards the crowd will move down the block to the Tower Theater and Chapman Lofts where a team of comedians will be staging 25 stand-up acts in six different venues. The free shows will go on from 8:30pm to 10:00pm.
This month’s Comedy Walk theme: “Mom Comedy.”

Comedy Walk’s site - with a list of the 24 established comedians who will be performing - is at http://www.comedywalk.com
Get there at 6, then Mix - then you will have people to go to the Comedy show with!

are people generally friendly at these events? I would think its a place people come with groups of friends. Anyone else have input?
Wow - this had to be the most horrendously inept line up of “comedic” talent offered up by a booker. The event was touted as being free - which is most likely the only way you would ever be able to assemble a very small group of people to view and listen to the car crash of talent that took the stage.
Honestly - someone with more contacts to the “comedy” world should immediately get involved with this or it will forever ruin the genre or idea that a genuine comedy night with a real booker and actual comedic talent can exist in Downtown Los Angeles.
To say this entire event was pathetic is an understatement - it is an embarrassment to the entire genre and downtown scene. Please if there is a comedy god he will intervene and command whomever was involved with this to immediately stop the sucking and realize they are doing more harm than good. You honestly are ruining it for the rest of us.
(NOTE: for those coming to the defense of your “friends” who put this catastrophe together - please please please - tell me all about the wonderful comedic performers involved like Patton Oswalt/Sarah Silverman/Nick Swardson/The Conchords/Tim & Eric/Paul F Tompkins/Demetri Martin/Bob Odenkirk/Zach Galafanakis etc — all whom regularly perform at small alternative venues on the West Side and in Hollywood - and why no one of this ilk or caliber was involved in the show - oh - I get it because no one involved in putting up the event is actually involved in the comedy business — seriously - what was offered up last night was worse than an open mic night at the Chuckle Hut in Valencia. So while they may be great people - and the number of hours they spent to put this event together was admirable - they don’t have a clue about comedy - how a showcase of talent works or is put together - nor who is in the “comedic world” actually lives downtown or is part of the downtown scene (have you heard of Charlene Yi/Blaine Capatch/Lucha/Dana Gould/Stupid Face/Human Giant etc — all of whom either live or are associated with other works/shows downtown). And if your feeble excuse is that they are creating there own “scene” — please stop now - you don;t have a clue of which you are speaking about or involved.
