urth caffe’s soft opening “soon,” but free coffee until then
Located at the Barker Block, Urth Caffe is preparing for its soft opening possibly next week, giving the starving Arts District masses another neighborhood dining option — if the company and staff are ready for it.
After rumors swamped the company with inquiries, the restaurant and coffee shop may just open their doors quietly (if there is any such thing when blogs are involved) on Monday, October 27 (UPDATE: Urth caffe is now open),
Whether they’re opening on Monday or not, the shop is already handing out free cups of their celebrated organic coffee to area residents as a preview of what’s in store. No guarantees about the availability of the coffee if you head out there though.
The official grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting is set for Sunday, November 16.

Fantastic! Thanks for the update on this. I was wondering when they will open as the Arts District is in need of places such as this – hopefully they will stay open late and have a nice outdoor/patio section similar to the one on Melrose.
I talked to the owner. There will be a grand opening party on Nov. 16th with free food and coffee. And, yes, they will soft open before that date.
I peeked in the windows last Sunday morning. Looked pretty ready to open.
Can’t wait.
I ride my bike by Urth a few times a week. Glad to see it opening up soon, it’ll be a cool place to ride to in the mornings to grab a coffee/something to eat.

I just went and got some free coffee. They said they will offer free coffee from now until Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They even had it iced. The fellow said they will open Monday.
