late to the fro-yo party: south park’s caliyogurt now open
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
South Park, which until now has been left out in the cold for yogurt options, is home to the latest branch of Caliyogurt, a frozen dessert chain ironically based in Florida.
With a stylish interior of bright lights, pyramidal foam wall appliques and squat outdoor chairs shaded beneath lace umbrellas, Caliyogurt stands out on a block that sees only light pedestrian traffic.
Toppings are standard — berries, nuts, granola and cereals — but it’s the yogurt that’s won me over. Caliyogurt comes in both plain and pink grapefruit.
Plain drops the kick-in-the-mouth tartness of Pinkberry, but with an equally creamy texture.
Pink grapefruit, on the other hand, is unique in frozen yogurt, retaining the acidic bitterness of grapefruit with a light and pleasant aftertaste. If you’re unsure whether you’ll enjoy the grapefruit experience, ask for a sample first.
Free WiFi should become available starting Thursday.
