safari sam’s makes an offer no downtowner can refuse
Safari Sam’s, the all-ages performance venue that recently relocated to Downtown LA from Hollywood, is acclimating to its new location at Main Street’s Regent Theatre.
With room for nearly 800, the theater is twice as large as its former digs, says owner Sam Lanni. That poses some challenges in selling out a show that would have done so easily back at the smaller Sunset Boulevard space.
So in the spirit of neighborly introductions, Safari Sam’s is presenting Downtown residents a special offer: Free entry to any show at the Historic Core venue over the next six months, for those living in ZIP codes 90013, 90014, 90015, 90017 and 90021. Valid ID or proof of address required. UPDATE: ZIP 90012 is also included in this list, after clarification from Sam Lanni.
Meanwhile, Main Street nightlife is picking up with several hundred concert-goers coming Downtown each event night. A full bar will arrive within several weeks as permit issues are sorted.

Was it something I said?!?!? Why was 90012 left off the list?
Are we not Downtown enough? Oh well, we’ll still go…
Dan: As a former resident of the 90012, I feel your pain! I’m on it… will report back.
gah! Count me in as another resident of 90012 who feels that pain!
Yes, 90012 should definitely be included.
90012 here as well! Ha.
I’m one of the 90012ers as well.
I just sent an email to Safari Sam’s decrying our unjust fate…
90021 = 90012? If not– sad!
UPDATE from Sam: He is definitely honoring the 90012 area code as part of Downtown!
Yea!!!…including the 90012 zip code is a good move…many people (including myself) live in the 90012 and appreciate being included. Thank you Rich for your power and influence!
I checked out SS’s calendar on the Web but there’s nothing there that categorizes the headliners. Alternative? Punk? Surf? Spoken word? Who does what?
Granted, I’m not out a lot of money if I just walk in, decide I don’t like the band then walk out, but still… it’d be nice to have some way of knowing.
wow! We get in free to all ZERO shows that have coming up! That calendar on their site is the most depressing looking list I have ever seen. All shows seem to be cancelled or moved or have no details other than that there WILL be a show. What happened to all of their bands? Mod nights? Local bands….? no? Surprise surprise. Hopefully the old location on Sunset will still be available when they realize what a mistake they made in a few months. Or weeks.
^ #11: Their site could use some work, but I’m sure you can find something over the next 180 days to enjoy, don’t you think?
