late-night dash service added to the mix
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
Some good transit news by way of the Los Angeles Department of Transporation:
In addition to the Red Line’s lauded late-night hours during the holiday season, a new DASH line trial will be debuting tomorrow that hits Downtown’s nightlife hotspots with service every ten minutes.
And the best part? It’s totally free.
Friday and Saturday nights (early Saturday and Sunday mornings) from 6:30pm to 3:00am, the circuitous route offers visitors the chance to see Downtown’s sights at night with connections to the Red and Blue lines, from LA Live to the Old Bank District and the Grand Avenue cultural corridor.
Though Little Tokyo isn’t included in the route, the active district is just a short walk away from the new line, which is as yet unnamed — might we suggest the “H” line?
Compared to the Downtown Discovery (“DD”) weekend service, though, the new line has a favorable 30-minute circuit — versus 52 minutes on the “DD”.
An official announcement comes today with a press conference at 3:00pm in front of the Disney Hall, but blogdowntown got the official route map a little early.
The trial runs from November 21 through New Year’s Eve.
Will you be using the evening DASH service? Let us know!

This is very exciting! I’ve been waiting for an extension on the dash hours for over 4 years, and this new route serves that purpose!
(rats freak me out, so I can’t walk around the neighborhood much at night)
YAY!
this means i can get even MORE drunk during the holidays!!!
=)
this is super exciting…I’ll save my money for cab fare and buy me an extra drink!
Here’s what we’re doing. We’ll have family and friends meet at a downtown restaurant at 6:00 p.m. on saturday Dec. 13th, Pit Fire Pizza for us. Then board the free shuttle to L.A. Live for the free tree and light spectacular. Board the free shuttle again and take off for ice skating at Pershing Square. Then take the shuttle back to 3rd and Spring St. to our cars. There’s any number of ways that this system can be utilized for easy fun and NO DRIVING around downtown and it’s free. M.G.
This is excellent news! I will be on this thing Friday and Saturday nights for sure.
I think everyone should utilize this as much as possible so that it will be reason to continue it on a permanent basis. Even instituting the standard DASH fare after the holidays, it’s a deal! This could really be a cornerstone in giving the night life transportation a jump start in anticipation of the Bringing Back Broadway trolly.
A terrific new service. I/we will use it for certain, even if I do not misbehave. Now if only…it went all the way to USC for basketball there.
I hope it’s more reliable than DASH Hollywood route which often results in one-hour wait time instead of each half-hour due to drivers who skip routes, constant breakdowns, and even drivers who chose to go home rather do that last loop. Imagine being downtown waiting for the 2am DASH …..and it never comes. Happens a lot in Hollywood on weekends and after business hours when customers can’t reach management.
