Downtown Los Angeles Blog

you’re invited: angelenic’s downtown holiday lights meet-up and walking tour!

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

It’s about time!  Come one, come all to angelenic’s first meet-and-greet, scheduled for Thursday, December 4 at 7:30pm.  (Up-to-date info here and on the Facebook event page)

Now that the cold season is upon us — as cold as it can get in LA, anyway — and many are starting to feel the Christmas cheer, it’s no coincidence that Downtown’s holiday lighting installations are starting to shape up.

Bring your friends and make new ones as we hit all the major sights in a spirit of camaraderie!

We’ll be meeting up at Union Station’s main entrance at 7:30pm, then heading to Olvera Street directly after that, winding our way through the neighborhood until we end at LA Live and their spectacular hourly light show.

Arrival at Union Station via the Red/Purple/Gold lines highly recommended. Check out the rudimentary Google map created for the event that shows all the brief stops we’ll be making.

It’s about a three-mile walk, which should be less than two hours in a photo group, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Bring a warm coat, your camera and tripod (if you have one), and maybe a Thermos of hot chocolate or spiced cider (Reminder: Don’t drink it on the Metro or you’ll face a $250 fine).

Afterward you can post your photos to the event page on Facebook.

Will you be joining us?  Let us know!

sweet! great idea! I think I’m flying back earlier that day from Chicago. I’ll totally be there if I’m in the hood. :)

What a marvellous idea. Highly unlikely I’ll be able to participate given my schedule. Here are some suggestions.

1) You might want to add the 7-11 on 7th & Olive. I saw they have a charming tree out front already.
2) The Cathedral is also worth a look, although they have not been consistent over the years. Sometimes they put up lovely decorations; other years not much.
3) Since your route takes you near there, consider trapsing through the Civic Center station. I always enjoyed the art installation in the station and the mosaic work at the corner of First & Hill.
4) Oh yeah, consider checking out the MTA building. They usually have an impressive tree in the lobby. I have a hunch the lobby on the transit plaza will be suitably decorated, too. Anyways, I always love that mural.

argh! Looks like there is no way I’ll be back in LA in time. I won’t be finished in Chicago until around 5pm. Earliest I’d be able to get back to LAX would be 11pm.

I’ll have to settle for looking at the pictures and using my imagination as to all the deep yet witty conversations you all will have. :(

I’ll be there! Looking forward to some Downtown cheer!

I will be there with camera in hand!

I will sadly not be able to make it. I will be at the Grand Opening of LA Live that night and it starts at 5:30 until late. Sounds like a great idea and I really wish I could attend.

I totally RSVP-ed on Facebook. I just hope it’s not ridiculously cold.
