spitz’s soft opening huge success, regular hours next week

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

sweet potato friesSo much for a “soft opening.” The new location of Spitz Döner Kebab in Little Tokyo opened last night to much anticipated fanfare.

By 7:00pm a line of eager customers stretched from the cash register to the front entrance. All tables were seated and food service was keeping pace with the flow of customers.

My companions, all first time Spitz diners, commented on how light and flavorful the food was. Everyone dug the seasoned sweet potato fries, fresh out of the fryer, and the bar service was attentive and courteous. We never found our glasses empty of wine.

The outdoor patio was enjoyed briefly before a sudden downpour forced patrons inside to squeeze themselves around already full table seating.

Unfortunately, the sangria and fresh fruit concoctions were not yet available but the kitchen cranked out order after order of falafel, fries and döner meat. The full menu is to be implemented next week.

spitz downtownI returned to Spitz a day after the soft opening for more grub and to get co-founder Bryce Rademan’s impressions on their debut.

Rademan was pleasantly surprised by the strong turnout and praised his kitchen staff for handling the rush so smoothly. He feels the new restaurant lived up to expectations and is equipped to handle large catering and delivery orders.

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend should give Spitz an opportunity to ease into regular store operation and hours. Starting Monday Rademan anticipates they will stay open until midnight seven days a week and begin offering catering and delivery.

If last night’s showing is any indication Spitz is soon to be a favorite downtown hangout. Welcome to the neighborhood!

I live in Little Tokyo and have been waiting for Spitz to open. Went last night for an early dinner. Yum! Good beers on tap too. Staff was very friendly. Expect this to be a weekly spot for grub.

I’ll echo Figbean’s comments: I can see this place being a regular spot for me too. Good food, relatively cheap, good beer, and reasonable prices. Though it may require a few more trips to the gym…

went there today; serving was just the right size.. very satisfying! sweet potato fries were super yummy! price point very do-able, and the place is *just* far enough away from the historic core to make a good “walk it off” back home. =)

Yummy food. Great space. I like it much better than their Eagle Rock locale, but where’s the gellato? (not that downtown needs any more frozen desserts, but their stuff is good).

Are the owners gay? Just curious :)

There Doner could use some help. Not how they serve it in europe at all. The bartender Bret?Brad? He is really awesome! Great beer selection!
