‘marty’ cafe and convenience shop opens in the cecil hotel
This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.
The Cecil Hotel’s journey toward a boutique destination for tourists and out-of-town guests continues this week as the small convenience store Marty Cafe is now open to the public, replacing a former 24-hour mini-mart that was rarely open 24 hours a day.
Described on FoodGPS as “a crossbreed of a Famima!! mini market and Starbucks coffeehouse,” by Lanting Hotel Group President Bill Lanting, expect espresso drinks, pastries, light cafe fare, and prepackaged sandwiches, salads, and fruit to be available.
With entrances on both Main Street and through the hotel’s surprisingly well-appointed lobby — and hours that may extend to 11:00pm in the future — Marty is sure to be a time-saver for residents in the southern Historic Core.
Owner/chef Tony Romano explains that the store is receiving new merchandise and will expand the small selection over the next several weeks.
Meanwhile, the hotel’s new twin drinking establishments Nip and Tuck are now under construction (details to follow).

Will it employ that bizarre man child that used to man the register of the previous mini mart?
looks great! the transformation of this hotel has been amazing. can’t wait for the nip and tuck to open!
Why is it that the more upscale the establishment, the more empty the space? I don’t geddit.
You see this at boutiquey clothing shops on Melrose or Robertson. What, rich people don’t like a large selection of options?
Scott: Just for the record, the owner is still receiving more goods and will fill the space out, is what he told me.
this place blows. sorry, but it does. the pink and brown color scheme and the little plastic balls that try to pass for chairs is only the tip of the iceberg. this place is like a seven eleven in some horrible sci fi future! and the guy trying to tell me about his place was a real schmo. Can you spell… N.E.R.D.S. !!!!
