from pit to playpen: medallion’s retail courtyard
After an emotional shutdown over rising construction costs and spiraling market conditions, followed by a possible resurrection a week later, the people behind the Old Bank District’s Medallion project are all over the map lately.
That which many feared would be left as open construction pit for the next year (or longer) may be turning into one of Downtown’s most pedestrian friendly pavilions. New renderings of the Medallion’s interior retail courtyard from M2A Architects show a well-landscaped, multi-level walkable setting saturated with storefronts and open space, somewhat resembling a human-scale gerbil playpen.
If developer Saeed Farkhondehpour can manage to wipe his brow and hold it all together, Downtownizens will be enjoying their new fun place by late next year.

Nothing is official yet, but apparently some construction workers have been spotted back on site. Stay tuned for confirmation.
Thank you…Wow this does seem like a project that would definetly benefit Downtown..with all the retail leased out to the right restauarnts, stores, this one could be amazing.
I still think it looks like the prison compound in Quake II.
Marc, you’re right, it does look like a prison compound. Will there be any retail facing the outside (street side)?
