casa restaurant takes grand avenue january 6
CASA, the brand-new Mexican restaurant and taqueria from the creators of Mendocino Farms, officially opens January 6th following a short soft opening phase that’s been tailored to the Bunker Hill set, according to Director of Operations Sean Krajewski.
Last time angelenic checked in with CASA, construction was still underway at the self-identified authentic Mexican restaurant. Though there are many standards on the menu, Chef Kris Morningstar has thrown in a few surprises after traveling up and down the coast looking for inspiration.
At lunchtime, a two-step taqueria line keeps hungry corporate workers moving along at a brisk pace — a smart move for a neighborhood that’s beginning to find its dining niche.
Later in the evening sit-down service is expanded with tacos, ceviche, carne asada, carnitas and braised rabbit.
“Casitas” — intimate booths that defy the traditional leather-bound form — are designed for small parties, each serving its own purpose. A group of ladies hitting the town for a girls’ night out may prefer a “see and be seen” booth, while friends celebrating a birthday may prefer a more private casita.
With a dearth of dinner options nearby, CASA is poised to grab attention, especially once the summer heats up with Grand Performances at Cal Plaza’s Water Court.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
Reasonable pricing – way too go! Next up getting the dash buses to run past 7pm and also on the weekends so those in south park can get there quick without paying for a cab or drinking and driving! Can’t wait to try Casa’s margaritas!
The Water Court has become unpopular for the horrible fare, expensive sandwich shops and so-so Japanese & China Express hot plate food/ take-out. Casa is something different. This is a BIG step in the right direction. Welcome to The Hill!! (A second time for this company).

Absolutely cannot wait for this! What a fantastic addition to my area. It’s hard to believe the price point for such an upscale menu. Looking forward to what happy hours they’ll be having!!
Went here for lunch today… the taqueria line was long but moved quickly… reminded me of Chipotle in a good way. I played it safe with the Pollo Asada Ensalada which had wonderful flavors but the lettuce was horrible… I will try a taco/burrito next time.
The prices are ridiculous….. Im going for the drinks.
