two more restaurant openings kick off a busy june

Lime CafeUPDATE: Lime Cafe is now closed indefinitely. Lime Cafe is gearing up for a June 3 soft opening at 5th and Spring,” said owner Michael Franz, whose entry into the Downtown market was helped along by input from the readers of angelenic back in February. Saying that we wanted a fresh, natural Mexican restaurant with late hours and a good happy hour was easy, and now comes the hard part: Do you want that margarita blended or on the rocks?

UPDATE: Lime Cafe is now closed indefinitely.

Farther west, Panini Cafe in South Park will start serving its mid-range Italian/Mediterranean fare starting the first week of June — if everything goes as planned. The restaurant is located directly across 9th Street from Ralphs and has been covered in plywood while interior work wraps up. A large selection of entrees, paninis, appetizers and soups is expected, with breakfast, lunch and dinner hours.

WTF? How has lime cafe opened so quickly?! That is awesome.

As always, I will try most major new restaurants downtown. If there are merits to it, I will spread out my opinion through chowhound, yelp, and all my favorite food blogs.

I know I will make it out to downtown, but you downtowners need to step it up and support these places otherwise they wont stay open late.

The panini cafe will easily lock it down with the business crowd!

There have been so many new places opening up this past year that it’s hard to support them all, even with my best intentions. If I could eat at Sixth Street Bar & Grill three times daily, I would, but then there’s Tranquility Base, Lost Souls, Colori and a host of other restaurants that I want to support as well.

That’s why we have to keep these office workers in the neighborhood a little later than 5:30 every day!

Any idea when Pastagina is opening on 9th? There website is unhelpful.

I will definitely be there at LiME.

A someone with insulin resistance , I say it is about time.

a 6 dollar burrito with meat that has no hormones and is organic is fine by me. The prices will actually be a lot less than those in the old bank district anyway.

i live above where the new pastagina is opening and it looks like it’s getting pretty close to opening. most everything looks installed and it just needs the finishing touches.

i’m delighted to hear that we’re going to be getting some (potentially good) mexican downtown! i work and live downtown, so if it is good, i will frequent it often, and like jeremy r., i’ll be yelping the results! i’m loving how we’re getting more late night food places around!

I see the Panini sign is now up and lit at the corner of 9th & Hope. They did a good job of embedding it in the ivy covered wall. Looks good.

The scaffolding is now being removed.

so, i called lime cafe yesterday to see what their weekend hours are, and apparently they are closed until mid-july, as they “update” their menu. good for them for paying attention to feedback that was complaining about their limited menu, but i have to think it’s a bad sign that it shut down for a couple weeks in the same month that it opened. hopefully when it reopens it can do better. i hadn’t even had a chance to go there yet.
