d-town burger bar opening within ‘two, three weeks’

D-Town Burger Bar, Downtown Los AngelesMore details about the Historic Core’s latest burger destination have been revealed to angelenic, while the fast-casual concept is closer than ever to completion.

D-Town Burger Bar has been nearly ready to open for a couple weeks now in the ground floor of the Hayward Hotel at Sixth and Spring.  As is usually the case, a litany of city-mandated changes is at the root of the delays.

Owner David Librush responds to a request for info via email: “It may be another two to three weeks, maybe a little less or a little longer until we can open.”

Sure, that’s a nebulous proposition for an impatient crowd, but we know how it goes.

Librush is taking a simple approach to the whole concept, with burgers, a few combos and a couple sides, In-N-Out-style.

Next door, 6th Street Market has erected signage stating it will be open “soon,” serving neighborhood residents with groceries, quick-serve eats, various sundries and … Lotto tickets.  The 2,000-square-foot market will also contain a “’50s-style deli.”

Pedestrian activity on Sixth Street has picked up in recent months following the opening of several new residential buildings, a few eateries and a bar, one of the many upshots to continued investment in the neighborhood.

Ready for the “In-N-Out-style” D-Town Burger Bar? Let us know!

Awesome! Hopefully the burgers there won’t be as expensive as Pete’s over on 4th and Main. Pete’s has awesome burgers but $12 is kinda crazy…

I caught a glimpse of the D-Town’s interior yesterday and it really does have a bar! I’ve cut back considerably on my beef intake, but I’m willing to fall off the wagon to give D-Town a try.

Also, is that Tom Sizemore taking a bite out of that burger?

I’m hungry.

I think 6th Street is becoming the best street in Downtown. So many new restaurants and bars, a grocery store (hallelujah!) and a lot of foot traffic. There’s even some retail with Crack Gallery and the handbag store.

please have a veggie patty option

This place is a great place for this particular area. The owners are really trying hard to transform this area and this corner. Once the other SB buildings come online it should be a very key part of downtown. The market is huge, there is crack gallery, a market, dry cleaners, and a dessert bar in that building.

I am not positive but I have talked to one of the partners and the burgers are in the $6.95 range. I believe that may even be a combo but I may be mistaken. Definitely for the regular downtown crowd like us.

Gotta agree with Sally–D-Town? All the trendies will jump on that and within a month, this won’t be Downtown any more….ooooo, have the heard the latest place to be? It’s D-Town. Sounds like Frogtown-the really bad part of Cypress Park. Oh well, I’ll still eat there most likely! Just don’t let Frank from San Francisco through your doors. Oh, he’ll spend his money & eat your burgers, but then he’ll publicly pine about how much better food is in San Francisco. Yada, yada, yada.

I think, Vero, that downtown already falls under the trendy category, otherwise there wouldn’t be an active blog about it with people commenting on liveworkplay crap. Vero, maybe you should travel more and see what’s out there before being so territorial over a village that has room to improve.

i second the veggie patty request. :)

I hate it when people compare cities.

15 Dan in LA { 01.30.09 at 1:35 pm }

one word. LATE!

PLEASE stay open late. i’d give up half the lunch options in downtown for a few more reasonable places open late, like 1 or 2am late…

Pulley’s pork sandwich guy says he is going to open in the Downtown Independent theater lobby tomorrow or Superbowl Sunday – those little sandwiches would be a great late nite affordable treat! Beer and Pulley’s sandwiches – can’t get better than that.

This part of Spring street is really transforming into something special, especially once the nearby SB buildings come online. The owners of this building are investing and are successfully turning this area into a true small community with the dry cleaners, markets, a dessert bar, and the diner.

I have talked to the owners of this place and I am not positive but the price range should be in the $6.95 range. That may actually be for a combo also although I may be mistaken. Definitely a place for the everyday downtown person and I know the plan is to be open late night.

I agree D-town is kinda lame and we could have thought of something catchier……..but I live across the street so I cant wait for it to open…..especially for those days when Im really hung over and just want to carb up since theres never any good food in my pad….

Downtown needs more people with vision and motivtion. Retail is key in bringing back downtown. We need more locals to start investing in businesses downtown including cafe’s, clothing stores, and restaurants. Once an area has more than 2 or 3 places to go, it will become more of a destination to downtowners.

YES, 6th street could be something really special. They just need to start working on cleaning up between Broadway and Hill…. scarryy!

21 Rich Alossi { 02.02.09 at 10:48 am }

^ I agree that 6th between Broadway and Hill should be cleaned up. That “news stand” in the alley of the Los Angeles Theatre is a joke. I wouldn’t call it scary, but sick is more like it.

I was eating there one day and I almost threw up because of the cook’s neck acne. He’s turned around making burgers, and all I see are his white ready to burst zits on his neck! Not appetizing in the least!

meh.. I gave them 2 shots.. the 1st time was so so and the 2nd was not as good as the 1st.. and the chocolate shake was just awful. I think that calling them “In N Out style” makes them out to be what they are not: delicious. they are far from In N Out quality.. they do in a pinch (ie: if Weeneez isn’t open or the Nickel) I hear they are doing BLTs now so I might go back on of these days when I have some money to throw away.. which I don’t lately. =(

Hey! I noticed someone is missing now, that super cool red head girl that used to work there. Amy? The girl in the picture up above. I hope she didn’t get fired, this place needed her! She seemed like she owned the place. I used to come in with my friends every night but that stopped because most of the girls there are airheads when it comes to food service. Amy would always get my order right and also remember my name and our last conversation so I started only coming if she was there . One night, she made my friends and I all strawberry lemonade (they don’t have it on the menu) Hard to find waitresses like that these day’s! Now I have to get waited on by a girl who has a psychotic smile on her face and the personality of a dalmatian. I still like to eat there though, and no I am not a psycho just think it’s hard to find a good waitress these day’s.
