yxta cocina opens february 25

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Yxta Cocina Mexicana, 6th & Central, Downtown Los Angeles Yxta Cocina Mexicana, the Industrial District restaurant from the family behind Highland Park’s El Arco Iris, is set to open February 25, according to owner Jesse Gomez.

At last check-in one month ago, Yxta was undergoing a light build-out phase — more like a tinkering of sorts — before opening day.

Expect full-sized entree plates and margaritas with freshly squeezed juices. Lunch prices will range from $9-$16; large dinner plates from $11-$21.  Free parking after 5:00pm; $2.00 valet during lunch.

Thanks for the info Rich- you always have the latest and greatest restaurant info. The Margaritas with fresh squeezed juice, and happy hour prices, sound perfect. The 25th can’t come soon enough.

Does the Center City Dash still go down this way on the 6th St route? Didn’t see it on the map on LADOT website. Hope so….mmmm margaritas….

LA Lola: It appears the Central City East DASH runs with service to 5th and Central, one block away: http://ladottransit.com/dash/routes/downtown/downtown.html

Keep in mind the running times of the buses though.

Ah, cool. For some reason, I thought it would’ve gone down 6th street all the way . Thanks!

There are several Metro buses that utilize 6th Street though. I think the 82 goes down 6th…

Yeeeaaah, I’ve been on the 82 orange bus going down that street….once.

Looking for alternatives…. :-I

Might try the 53 bus line from 5th & Beaudry to 6th & Central, which then heads south thereafter:

take the 18 bus down 6th, get off at Kohler

9 Daveed { 02.11.09 at 12:36 pm }

After your meal, walk across Central and take the 62 bus - it goes north on Central and then turns west on 5th back to Downtown.

Or take the 60 down 7th

Short answer: School. Long answer: Economy.

I’ll be posting much less frequently as I enter the final three months of my schooling and embark on the great unknown, aka the job market. Should be able to post more than I have been though. I’ll keep you posted!

More detailed answer: no one else contributing any more, nothing but bad news to post.

^I’m sure you’d love seeing Downtown collapse into a pile of smoldering ruins, but it’ll be fine. I just need a break from this.

Ever thought of joining forces with Eric Richardson? His blog has a nice cast of contributors, but it’s missing your development perspective.

Could we get a better more detailed report on the food at cocina?

24 Neighbor { 03.07.09 at 6:58 pm }

Went to the happy hour last night. I was going to try a full dinner but instead opted for happy hour tacos and a happy hour margarita.

The$6 tacos were definitely not enough food for me. For $8 or $9 at Casa they give you really big meaty tacos, I can only eat 2 of those. I really needed more food YXTA. I sat with some friends and they got the enchilada dinner. There was a little more food but still kind of small portions. Dont get the house tequila unless you want a headache the whole day the next day. Casa has waaay better tequila for their house tequila. Yxta is a convenient location but they need bigger portions and better tequila. Please. I will try again in a few weeks.

Anyone else go here with anything good/bad to add lately?

26 bromike666 { 03.12.09 at 4:25 pm }

Went back last night for happy hour. Split 3 taco plates and drinks with a friend, left slightly buzzed, full and happy. The carne asada tacos improved by 100% since the pre opening. I now crave them, good thing I only live 2 blocks away!
