library bar adding kitchen, bar food menu

Looking for information on Downtown LA?

Angelenic is the essential news resource for those living, working and visiting Downtown Los Angeles. Check out our Library Bar, Downtown Los AngelesDowntown's favorite oxymoron hangout is pushing aside a few bookshelves to make way for a kitchen and in-house chef!

Library Bar manager Carlos Perez tells angelenic construction began this week on a new food preparation area inside the venue, a decision he says was made to feed those "well-heeled professionals and fashion-focused creatives" looking for some late-night grub at the pub.

"Customers tell us they need something to eat after ten o'clock, and they would leave to go other places. We don't know exactly how the new kitchen plans will work out, but we want to keep those people here,” explains Perez.

At the moment, those plans include serving a “high-end bar food menu” from 4:00pm to midnight, Monday through Friday. “We won’t become a full-service restaurant,” the manager clarifies, “but we’re considering adding a ‘runner’ to serve people sitting at tables.”

Currently, Library Bar offers low-priced beer snacks, pizzas and sandwiches from Wolfgang Puck Bistro next door — an arrangement which will probably no longer exist after the upgrades.

“It will be a couple months before the new kitchen is complete… but when it’s ready, we expect some residents to consider us for dinner,” states Perez when asked if the changes might draw a different crowd.

With only Subway and The Standard’s 24/7 restaurant open nearby after 10:00pm, some may seek Library Bar as casual, mid-range alternative after prime dining hours.

First opinions?

Clever move, gentlemen — I expect nothing less from a place themed on studious works of literature.

Don’t forget the hummus.

I hope this isnt half a$$ed attempt to just add food!

It would be awesome if they got Govin Armstrong to design a kick a$$ bar menu to match their AMAZING beer selection. The concept would really excel here and put Father’s Office to Shame.

Do you know who they have hired to design the menu? 7 grand’s ced moses hired Neal Fraser, 7 restaurant got the extremely talented Paderno!

Monday thru Friday Wieland Brewery Underground (located under 515 South Flower, across from the Standard) has food until close, which is 2am. The best part about it is they have a late night happy hour that starts at 10pm, it also goes until close and includes food and drink options.
