catching up on koreatown’s metro accessible retail

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Wilshire State Bank at City Center on 6thNow known as City Center on 6th, Koreatown’s newest shopping destination (backing the Equitable Tower) has signed Wilshire State Bank to anchor the corner of 6th and Mariposa.

Korean gourmet grocer City Market was announced earlier this year, and signage has been installed for both businesses, though the complex remains dormant.

Moving east towards Vermont, cigar shop Classique 95 has become the newest addition to the Barcelona Tower’s retail strip. The high-end boutique opened in mid-May and offers an impressive selection of premium brands and smoking accessories. Pinkberry, Japanese resto Fat Fish, Park on 6th Cafe and trendy gallery Mobius complete the line up.

Wasabi Storefront at Wilshire Vermont Station ProjectProbably the most exciting new tenant yet to open in the Wilshire Vermont Station Project is Wasabi Japanese Restaurant, to be located on the far corner of the TOD at Shatto Place. New signage and nearly-finished interior indicate Wasabi should be opening this month.

Also scheduled for arrival: Cold Stone Creamery, O Nails, Palace Beauty, Great Steak & Potato, Samurai Sam’s Teriyaki Grill and 90010 Fashions.

Well, gas prices are going up, schools are getting finished, and retail is filling in. It is time for the middle-income masses to start pouring into the city center!

Jeremy, I love your logic, although I wish it were that simple.

It would look nice if they put chairs and tables outside of Coldstone. All restaurants in Downtown should put a place to sit outside, it gives it the nice European look.

The Coldstone on Flower & 9th doesn’t have anywhere to sit inside or outside the store! Very odd.

When will City Center on 6th open? They’ve been promising to open City Market there for several months and keep pushing the date back. It’s taken over four years for them to build this shopping center - during the same time, a half dozen other major buildings in the neighborhood have flown up much faster. Do they have financial problems that are holding them up?

Wilshire and Vermont apartment is a horrible place to live. u can take my work since i have been living there for the past 8 months. Iam waiting for my lease to end to I can hurry up and leave the lousy apartment. the area is always loud. guests have to pay 30 dollars to park and visit. Their AC system is so loud that we cant listen to our TV. Cant leave the windows open since mosquitos come in all the time. The washer and dryer takes approximately 3hrs or more to finish one load of laundry. The emergency alarm system goes off in the middle of the night to keep u awake. U have bomb threat that forces the residences to evacuate their apt at 330 in the morning. walking down the hallways you can smell cigarette and marijuana that the residences have been smoking. overall to costly for what the apartment can offer.
