Following a relatively quick built-out period in the former Flower Street Cafe space, Maria's Downtown (along with younger sister, Maria’s Express) is scheduled to hold its grand opening the night of Thursday, June 12.
The restaurant’s arrival marks a continuing shift in the Financial District dining scene, filling growing demand for casual, mid-range fare with extended hours all days of the week.
Residents, daytime workers and weekend visitors to Downtown will find this urban version of Maria’s Italian Kitchen a respite to the fast food chains and long-time luxury spots that dominate the area’s food options.

Definitly excited for this one. Quick and affordable, good combo.
I have a concern with all these new restaurants opening in downtown…..why does every single restaurant feel the need for valet parking? These valet spots are taking away what little precious street parking we have remaining. Look at Wokcano, 4 spots are gone. Could Wokcano not just use the red anti-gridlock zone a little further south? I fear something similar can happen to Maria’s Italian Kitchen.
Is it really urban to have valet parking with every restaurant? We now have valet for Wokcano, Restaurant 7 & Bar, Maria’s, Cicero Italian, Daily Grille, Fire Engine No. 28, Cafe Pinot, etc … in the Financial District. Are people in LA not allowed to walk? When you valet, you’re less inclined to walk the streets.
Maria’s is not bad, just ok. I go to one near my house in Northridge. I definately don’t get excited over it.
I’m more interested in what the Express will be like.
my old apartment used to face the flower street cafe but i wasn’t allowed to go there because three buds of mine got sick off their food. i’m excited for this opening it’ll be great to have a mid-range option!
Downtown was kind of hurting for mid-range Italian cuisine.
Welcome to the neighborhood! I will be sure to check it out. I’ve been to many different Maria’s locations over the years, and I like them just fine.
Walked by on Sunday night, around dinner time, and saw a number of diners and wait staff milling about. It looks like they were going through a dry run of some sorts. The sign on the outside said they were closed.
Very excited to have a mid-range option coming to the downtown core. I’m not one for high-end dining and I would love to see more places like this, or even a few ‘neighborhood feel’ type establishments pop up.
