subway sandwiches now serving city west

This blog has moved to Twitter! Check out my twitter feed for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

Subway at VeroAround noon today the first Subway just west of the 110 Freeway will open its doors for business!

Overnight, signs for $5 footlongs and silver patio furniture replaced an empty Vero storefront that has remained dormant since the building came online last March.

The sandwich shop will be open daily from 7:00am to 11:00pm, sure to be a massive lunch-time draw for area residents, Good Samaritan hospital employees across the street, and thousands of nearby office workers.

Soon to join Subway at Wilshire and Witmer are Yogurberry, Mitaki Sushi and Wien Bakery. Other restaurants within a block’s walk include La Parilla, Pacific Dining Car and new arrival Herminie’s Grill.

I’m sober yet my mouth is watering! And I live upstairs! I’ve live at Vero since March 2007, when retail was a selling point, then a sore spot for how long it took to get any retail. I won’t believe it until I get my lips wrapped around a footlong! Pun intended.

I had dinner there last night - it’s open. Around 9pm last night, there was actually a small line to order, I can’t imagine how busy lunches will be.

Also, Yogurberry removed their window covering and you can see that the space is completely built out - pink paint, pearlescent tiles, everything. There’s no signage up yet, but this is one will be very soon.
