Crocker Bank BuildingFive Five Endeavors is currently building out a portion of the Crocker Bank Building’s basement level for a new bar/lounge called the Crocker Club. The establishment — to be located at 5th and Spring — is described as a 1920’s speakeasy-themed upscale club for private members in an old bank vault.

This weekend construction crews were busy reshaping the structure’s ground level along 5th to make way for a new 1,000 square-foot “waiting room” entrance to the underground space, which previous reports state will be through a “hidden door.”

The 6,000 square-foot venue will feature a dance floor, bar and multiple seating areas with space for a few hundred patrons, according to the floor plan approved in July 2007. The refurbished space will retain the original Italian marble, wood finishes and mosaic floors.

Seriously… all of the pseudo upscale dipshits trying to make downtown so “expensive” need to re-think their strategy. How about a new all night diner? A burger and fries joint or basic cafe with salads and good sammies? If downtown wants to be a contender, it needs to start offering up meal and dinner options that don’t require fancy shoes and a black Amex.

I’m with you, Sven. It struck me as I was looking for a new apartment that almost every new development is marketed as “luxury” this or “upscale” that.

There’s a few great restaurants and developments coming in that are more mid-market, but the demand for midrange venues and projects is really high.

We really don’t need Downtown to price out all but the chosen few…

i suspect there are number of businesses and residents that want more mid-scale businesses, but i get the feeling that a lot of property owners are holding out for up-scale rents.

i think this is a great idea n i can’t wait till it opens so i can have a cocktail… u people may not know it yet but downtown is about to have some major changes in the next 5 years and that means no more mid scale diners… upscale bars like the crocker club is what it’s all going to be about…
can’t wait:)
