Downtown’s newest trend-setting boutique arrived Tuesday in the heart of Little Tokyo’s growing fashion strip on 2nd Street.
Kimski Makes, filling a large space in Hikari between the new American Apparel store and upcoming Middle Eastern-eatery Spitz, is the first retail store for the Los Angeles-based design and apparel company Kimski.
“We offer our on unique designs, but Kimski Makes is also a portal for up-and-coming local artisans to bring their merchandise to market,” says store manager Raymond Cho.
Kimski’s industrial-style space is filled with refined, modern products from small furniture to jewelry, with an emphasis on vintage clothing.
The company’s design studio holds an office on 62nd Street in south Los Angeles. Photography, interior design and product development are some of the contractual services offered by the creative firm.

We walked by this shop today on the way to Hibachi BBQ Korean Kitchen. What a gorgeous spot! I so wanted to go in, but we were on a food mission today, not to mention I was with 2 non shopping type of dudes. I can’t wait to go in and look around. It had subtle lighting, forward looking fashions and a nice “feel” to it. I wish I would have taken a picture now, because it doesn’t look like the picture above anymore! There was clothing in the windows and people inside. Makes me think about the “game”. Looks like I might need to start saving for a shopping spree! Good Luck Kimski!
Yeah, I think you need to replace the photo, too.
For any who is interested, I just added an interior shot of Kimski Makes to the post. See above.
It’ll be nice when American Apparel opens up next door too, creating a stronger synergy to the area’s fledgling shopping scene.
