Outfest, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering and showcasing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender media, is getting off its 2008 film festival season tonight at Broadway’s Orpheum Theatre.
An opening night gala featuring the film Breakfast with Scot began this evening at 8:00pm with countless perfectly quaffed gents strutting down the red carpet in garments carefully chosen not to clash with the primary colors and harsh lighting.
And of course, it wouldn’t be Outfest without the legendary after-parties, and the on-premises Downtown bash tonight is preparing for thousands of revelers with food from over 30 Los Angeles restaurants. Friday night, the popular gay club Shits & Giggles is hosting the official after-party to Bruce LaBruce’s Otto; Or Up With Dead People.
The celebration tonight begins the festival’s 13-day run though July 21, scheduled to show 212 films and videos from 25 countries in 7 different venues throughout Los Angeles, including the REDCAT Theater at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Screenings at the REDCAT will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then programming will move out to other venues around the city, circling back to the Orpheum on closing night with a farewell showing of Tru Love at 8:00pm.
Tickets for regular screenings, galas and other special events are still available for purchase. See outfest.org for all the details details.
