Tofu Village, the Korean restaurant chain specializing in sundubu jjigae (piping hot, spicy tofu soup) that seeks to unseat its Southern California rivals, is taking over the former Giggle Giggle Korean BBQ space Little Tokyo’s Weller Court.

At times so packed with flavor it can put down a horse, the spicy broth at Tofu Village may yet be a tough sell to those accustomed to the complex kick at BCD Tofu House in Koreatown, which is just a short hop away from Downtown via the Purple Line and is a 24/7 operation.

As Tofu Village progresses on its rapid expansion, the competition with BCD is sure to be fierce. The yogurt wars may be winding down (with no clear winner in sight), but L.A. is already gearing up for the next round: Bring on the battle of the sundubu!

Great to learn about this new restaurant opening up in such an underutilized promenade. Weller Court could be really nice actually. It has an amazing view of City Hall and has an urban look and feel to it. However, it’s currently underwhelming and needs about 3-5 more substantial stores/restaurants to make it a destination point. Keep opening up those restaurants!
