Downtown Los Angeles Blog

angelenic is now two years old!

Looking for information on Downtown LA?

Angelenic is the essential news resource for those living, working and visiting Downtown Los Angeles. Check out our homepage for the latest restaurant, retail, and cultural news in the neighborhood.

RSS or email feeds make it easy to receive angelenic in your inbox every morning!

angelenic is now two years old! 2yearangeleniclogo128 downtown los angelesSo angelenic turns two years old today — and that’s, like, 14 in blog years, right?

I’ve got to smile as I look back at old stats - when 50 unique hits per day was a record, and angelenic was a small blog about what I’d observe Downtown. We’re on track now for 30,000 unique visitors this month, with another 800 via email and RSS daily.

We’ve had our fair share of criticism, getting serious about this whole blogging thing, a meltdown or two, an event and branching out with several more contributors.

Despite that growth, I’d like to think we’re still sticking to our core mission: Helping foster the existing sense of community in Downtown, getting the word out about local businesses and keeping you in the know.

Over the next year, we’ll be working on some design tweaks and expanding the “brand” and our readership, but most importantly, we’re going to continue delivering the information you can use. If we can find a way to make a buck doing it, we’ll try that too.

Thanks to our contributors who post when they can, and especially our readers, who have encouraged us every step of the way. We wouldn’t be doing this without you!

Here’s a few choice posts that have caused a commotion, started a dialog, made us laugh (remember Mode?) or brought about change:

Rich:

-grand launch event offers a taste of ‘pussy and pooch’
-mode closes again - haunted?
-inside american apparel: 4,000 downtown employees and counting
-when you’re hungry, downtown delivers (over 30 restaurants)
-famima!! restructuring, but downtown’s pork buns safe… for now

Stephen:

-could pop-culture exposure cure downtown’s perception issues?
-downtown: los angeles’s new “gayborhood”?
-bonchon chicken to ruffle kyochon’s feathers
-los angeles subway turnstiles? yes, please!
-royal claytons’ throne to be seized by ‘state’?

Thanks so much for this blog and all the work you do. It was THE resource when we decided to move from Chicago to Los Angeles, and remains a great source of information to this day.

I appreciate everything you guys do!

Wow…I think i started reading this back in January….Bottom line, your blog is my favorite. It has the best info, the best authors, and the best commenters. But more importantly, it represents what i want to see in Downtown, and what Downtown needs :smart growth. So keep it up guys! Angelenic is only getting better, along with Downtown.

Rich, Stephen, and all the new contributors - thanks for taking us on a daily tour of our ever-changing downtown. You gave all of us a scare when we thought you were shutting down, but I’m glad to know you are now going as strong as ever.

Happy Blog-Birthday!!! and to many more!!!

Also wanted to add my thanks — your leasing guide was my most valuable resource when looking for a place to live downtown — and I ended up finding a fabulous apt on Spring Street!

So many blogs taper off into oblivion after a couple of months, but Angelenic continues to thrive— at two years old, Angelenic is almost an old geezer! Congratulations!

I cannot believe angglenic.com is only 2 years old- it seems like it’s been a part of my downtown life forewer (well, at least 16 months). Rich, Stephen, and your guest bloggers- you folks write about the stuff that I care about downtown- the food, lifestyle, and politics (well, I don’t care too much about that until it affects me…(

Congratulations, and I wish you continued success and huge hits on your site. Eric
