los angeles times: ‘from gritty to glamorous’
Possibly as a mea culpa to its nasty article last month on the Downtown market, the Los Angeles Times printed a positive look at the Industrial/Arts District in this Saturday’s California section.
“There has been much debate about how much of the downtown industrial area should be rezoned for residential purposes… Still, the industrial zone east of Downtown is booming. The area has lured several high-profile retailers from other posts downtown and in other parts of the city.”
The article paints an accurate picture of the neighborhood - the pandemonium of parrots who feed on the strange fruit from the tree on Jesse Street (details added by me) while trucks filled with produce rumble by.
There are also mentions of the “glamorous” new retailers as well as teases of three new restaurants on their way: Urth Caffe, Primo Cucina and Church & State, which street gossip says will open the second week in May.
And, yeah, that’s me in the first paragraphs.
