first look: orchid hotel’s oh! restaurant & bar
The angelenic team was given a tour of the stylish Orchid Hotel and its Oh! Restaurant today in South Park — O Hotel Group’s first foray into the restaurant business — which is ready to serve its Mediterranean-Spanish menu with a slight California influence as soon as final permits from the city are granted.
The Restaurant and Bar
Head Chef Corey Locker has designed an exquisite breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu that promises to usher in nightlife and jump start an exciting dining scene in the South Park district of Downtown Los Angeles. Oh! Restaurant will mark the chef’s entry into the West Coast market, after his success in Washington D.C.’s Kyma restaurant.
What will eventually be comprised of two sections, the restaurant is located in the hotel’s surprisingly spacious lobby. The main ground-level will focus on entree dishes.
A fireplace, loft seating and rear bar lend to the intimate feel the restaurant is aiming for, and Charlie Chaplin movies will be projected onto the cafe’s interior wall — a request by long-time fan Michael Rahimi of the O Hotel Group. Exposed brick along the length of the restaurant will soon exhibit works by local artists, creating a SoHo aesthetic not common in the larger Downtown community.
The restaurant component is set to debut in January, barring any unforeseen permitting issues (please call to verify), while the main bar will open October 21. The current alcohol license only allows for drinks to be served between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M., though a new application has been filed and hours may be extended, according to restaurant management.
Future Plans
Approximately 7,000 square feet of open space lies below the hotel lobby and will eventually be converted into an ultra lounge-like extension of the restaurant, complete with a tapas menu and two bar areas. The space is unfinished, though construction is moving along at a quick pace. No opening date has been set for the lounge.
Two additional hotels are in the works for Southern California: a location in Long Beach on Ocean Boulevard called Ocean (following the signature “O” moniker), and a second planned near LAX in a former hospital. We’ll see how creative the owners can be in naming this location.
The Orchid Hotel
The hotel opened early last month adding 68 boutique-style rooms to the emerging South Park neighborhood. Each room features contemporary touches including a platform bed, flat-panel television and unique art by Shayan Rahimi, the owner’s son. Several sold-out weekends have proven the popularity of the hotel and the need for more lodging options as Downtown’s tourism market expands.

you guys got any scoop on Mode?
Everyone needs to go out on Friday Night and support the hottest new bar & restaurant in the downtown area, OH!! Executive Chef Corey has put a lotta love into it…. it’s the place to be!!!
Is it open tonight? If so, Ill go!
Jeremy,
It’s having a preview tonight (per Jenna above) though the public is welcome to stop by. I believe only the bar is opening, until November 1 when the restaurant opens. It’s recommended that you stop by Saturday instead so that the opening-day kinks can be worked out.
I just walked by Mode and it looks like the opening date is October 27th! They have the tables/booths and lighting in place.
