high style, high luxury, high prices: neihulé salon
We all knew it was only a matter of time before the influence of Hollywood would creep over the 110 into our little oasis of the city. This Friday, Downtown’s newest destination for beauty, style and body wellness will open its fanciful doors at 6th and Olive near Pershing Square.
Neihulé, named after founders Atouzo and Yvonne Neihulé (which means “to live a happy life” in India’s Angami dialect), will offer the hip urbanites of Downtown a Hollywood-esque retreat for anything related to hair, skin and body.
Haircuts, tanning, manicures, massages, spa therapies, facials and other luxury skincare services not yet offered in the neighborhood will be available, but at a price point you’d expect west of La Cienega. Standard haircuts for men begin at $50, $70 for women, and most spa services are priced comparable to Burke Williams.
Many locals who currently travel to other areas of the city for these amenities will be pleased of the convenience Neihulé brings, and some will find the sophisticated experience well worth the expense.
“We’ll be holding an audition soon for new stylists and color specialists to make sure everything customer who walks in the door receives the same caliber service,” promises Atouzo, who hopes his new salon can also cater to the needs of Hollywood types flocking to Downtown for the growing lineup of award shows at Nokia Theatre.
“There are already too many celebrity salons around Beverly Hills… we’re only a few blocks away,” he points out.
But don’t get him wrong, the Warren-Tricomi-trained professional is only trying to use his craft to establish a successful business for Downtown.
“I already feel like part of the community,” states Atouzo.
Come next week, hopefully he’ll be greeted as such.

The only way I can afford to go there is if they use hair models (read: free haircut). Me no got that much disposable income. :(
Does anyone know how Salon 11 is doing? I think their prices are slightly less but not that much lower. Could be a good indication of how this place will do.
No one I know wealthy or working class, thats a guy or even a gay dude like me,pays no more than $30 bucks and that includes the tip.
There is a saying in spanish- “sufre de joven para gozar de viejo”- suffer when young to enjoy when old.
Its like we all have to eat, but we don’t have to go to restaurants. Same applies to beauty, forget the “salon” and head to the drugstore. I love my queen helene grape seed peel off masque and mint julip green face masque.
Salon 11 charges $60 for women’s haircuts. I went there for convenience sake because I live next door (time is money afterall). The stylist and manager said business is extremely good and they even get clients outside of downtown. I believe they are also open pretty late for a salon- 8/9pm or so.
I’ll still be getting my hair cuts at the Barber’s School on Broadway - at $5.50 - but they are a welcome addition to Downtown. Hopefully, though, they will eventually have also later hours for all those who live donwntown but work on the Westside and who are only getting home around 7 PM.
Brady Westwater…I go to the same place. $5.50 for a haircut..can’t beat it!
