johnny rockets at union bank launches next month
Interior work is underway on Financial District’s new Johnny Rockets at 5th and Figueroa.
The restaurant space on the second level of the Union Bank Plaza’s retail center will be completed by March 29, according to the construction project manager on site today. Signage should be up on the storefront next week and applications for employment are being accepted.
Next door, Robek’s Juice is building out their twelfth Downtown location and should be blending by the end of next month. These new retailers join Starbucks, Quiznos, La Salsa, Koo Koo Roo and Cafe Prezzo as fast-casual options for the daytime lunch crowd.
Ironically, an airport-style express version of Johnny Rockets is expected to open soon all the way over in Little Tokyo’s Hikari Apartments where there are, of course, no office workers hunting a quick meal for blocks.

Wonder what the hours will be? Hope they are open on weekends. I remember going to the Central Library and finding nothing open in the neighborhood.
I don’t know about that. Hikari’s not too bad of a walk from, say, the Caltrans building.
The area around Hikari is quite busy around lunch time and currently the Little Tokyo area is the busiest of all the downtown “enclaves.” I think Johnny Rockets will do well in the area; I know I’d grab a burger there on the weekends.
Agreed Johnny Rockets will be successful there, and I’m very aware of how busy the area is. Although, I think a dine-in restaurant would make more sense for Little Tokyo, especially for the lingering weekend crowd.
It seems to me the location at 5th & Figueroa would have been more fitting for the express concept, since most of those other chains in the complex focus on the weekday lunchers.
